Relaxers
Relaxers are products designed to straighten the hair of African, African-Caribbean and Ethnic women with coarse hair. Hair relaxing can be done at a salon or at home using hair relaxing kits. There are generally two type of relaxers, lye and no-lye.
The main active ingredient in a lye-based relaxer is sodium hydroxide. Lye relaxers work more quickly than no-lye relaxers to break down the hair's bonds; the faster it works, the sooner you can rinse it out with a good neutralizing shampoo.
The main active ingredient in a no-lye based relaxer is calcium hydroxide or guanidine hydroxide which has a lower pH level than lye-based relaxer. Whilst no-lye relaxers work much slower, adhere to the instructions for use to prevent over processed hair that can lead to damage.
All Things Hair have a range of no base cream relaxers, no-lye conditioning relaxers and texturizers in varying strengths for different hair textures. There is also an exclusive range of sensitive hair relaxers especially for kids.
